Polyjacking vs Mudjacking
Both lift settled concrete from below. They differ in holes, weight, cure time, durability, and price, and those differences decide real projects.
Is Polyjacking Better Than Mudjacking in Amarillo?
Polyjacking is the better fit for most projects here: it uses smaller holes, adds almost no weight to soil that already failed once, cures in minutes instead of days, and resists the washout that causes much of the settlement around Amarillo in the first place. Mudjacking still makes sense on some large exterior slabs where material volume dominates the price and the base soil is firm. The right answer comes from the slab, the soil, and the budget, not from loyalty to a method.
The Two Methods in One Paragraph Each
Polyjacking injects a two-part polyurethane that expands into rigid foam under the slab. Ports are about five eighths of an inch. Polyurethane lifting foam is much lighter than traditional cement-based slurry and is designed to cure quickly after injection. Exact density, expansion, and cure specifications vary by product. It is closed-cell, so water does not wash it out or soak into it.
Mudjacking pumps a slurry of cement, sand or soil, and water through holes of one and a half to two inches. The slurry flows into low spots and lifts by hydraulic pressure, then hardens over one to two days into a dense mineral base weighing on the order of a hundred pounds or more per cubic foot.

Which Method for Which Project?
- Garage floors, interior slabs, pool decks: polyjacking, essentially always. Weight, hole size, and cure time all point one way.
- Driveways and patios: usually polyjacking; mudjacking competes when settlement is deep, volume is large, and the soil below is firm.
- Washout-caused settlement: polyjacking, because putting erodible slurry back into a proven water path invites a rerun. See how washout works.
- Soft or marginal soils: polyjacking. Adding substantially heavier fill to ground that could not carry the slab is how repairs resettle.
- Commercial and industrial floors: polyjacking for cure time alone; a warehouse aisle cannot close for two days.
- Large plain exterior slabs on firm base, budget-driven: a fair fight, and worth quoting both ways.
Common Misconceptions, Corrected
"Foam is experimental." Polyurethane injection has decades of use under highways, airport aprons, and rail slabs. It arrived in residential work after proving out under far heavier loads.
"Mud is natural, so it lasts longer." Slurry is cement and soil, and it is durable in stable, dry ground. But it is heavier than the soil that failed and erodible under flowing water, the two conditions common at settled Amarillo slabs. Longevity follows conditions, not material romance.
"Foam can lift anything, so bigger is better." Expansion force is real but the method still respects physics: badly shattered slabs, heaved slabs, and structural foundation problems are outside both methods' lane. Foundation movement in particular is a different trade entirely.
The Bottom Line
If you remember one sentence: foam wins on holes, weight, speed, and water; slurry wins on bulk material price. Around Amarillo, where shrink-swell clay and storm washout drive most settlement, the conditions usually argue for foam, and the exceptions are big, firm-based exterior slabs where the math favors volume. Either way, the method should come out of the assessment, not the sales pitch.
